Bag Cost Change Happening June 1st, 2022

At Deep Roots Market, we are always looking for ways to be more sustainable and efficient. The idea of charging for bags has been a controversial idea for many years. We want customers to feel taken care of, so although we encourage the use of reusable bags, we have provided paper bags all along.

The cost of supplies has increased to a point where we have no choice but to make a change. Starting June 1^st, 2022, we will be charging for paper bags at the register. You will not be charged for paper bags used in the Bulk Departments. We encourage reusable containers for bulk as well. Don’t forget, Owners get 5 extra points for every reusable bag or container they use for each shopping trip.

Starting June 1^st, 2022, large bags with handles will be .55¢ each and all other bags will be .30¢ each.

If an effort to assist customers with this change, we will be providing free reusable bags until they run out. These were kindly given to us by Mercato, our online shopping partner.

Please create the habit of reusing bags. Personally, I love the little Chico bags. They hold way more than you think, are super sturdy and lightweight, and I can clip them to my purse for easy access and so I don’t have to remember to bring reusable bags when I shop.
