Coop America -- Provides economic strategies, organizing power, and practical tools for businesses and individuals to address social and environmental problems.

Cooperative Grocer -- Online magazine aimed at retailers and cooperators, providing news and information about food co-ops; includes a directory of US food cooperatives.

Cooperative Grocers' Information Network (CGIN) -- National organization for co-op food stores; site includes information on how to start a food coop. Links page offers a wealth of information on food manufacturers, government agencies and consumer information sites.

International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) -- An independent, non-governmental association that provides information about cooperatives around the world.

National Cooperative Business Association (NCBA) -- National organization that presents information about cooperatives to help people understand how they can use the cooperative model to improve their lives and their communities. Represents US cooperatives in farming, health care, finance, energy, retail and more.

The Rochdale Principles -- A more in-depth look at the set of ideals for the operation of cooperatives which were first set out in England in 1844, and which have formed the basis for the principles on which co-operatives around the world operate to this day.

University of Wisconsin Center for Cooperatives (UWCC) -- Established in 1962, the UWCC is one of the oldest cooperative centers in the country. Strives to study, promote, and research cooperative action as a means of meeting the economic and social needs of people.

Carolina Farm Stewardship Association -- A membership-based organization of more than 750 farmers, processors, gardeners, businesses and individuals in North and South Carolina who are committed to sustainable agriculture and the development of locally-based, organic food systems.

Marketfarming.com -- Incredibly comprehensive permaculture-related resource page connecting sustainable agriculture initiatives and information with market opportunites. Lists hundreds of sites exploring permaculture, organics, gardening, raw foods, ecology, renewable energy, greenbuilding and more. Includes mailing lists and archives links.

National Organic Program -- The US Department of Agriculture’s homepage on organic certification.

The O'Mama Report -- An on-line resource for women who want to make the best possible decisions about organic agriculture and organic products.

Organic Consumers Association (OCA) -- A public interest organization dedicated to building a healthy, safe, and sustainable system of food production and consumption. They are a global clearinghouse for information and grassroots technical assistance.

Organic Trade Association (OTA) -- A membership-based business association for the organic industry in North America. Their mission is to encourage global sustainability through promoting and protecting the growth of diverse organic trade.

Permaculture Information Web (PIW) -- Offers information about the relationships between biota, including plants, animals, microorganisms, and other elements of living systems, in order to assist with the process of Permaculture design.

Plants for a Future Database Search -- Search for information on plants based on a variety of criteria including Latin name, common name, whether they are edible or medicinal, and region of origin or natural habitat.

Powell's Books - Cooking and Food Page -- One of the world's great independent bookstores, with seven locations in the Portland, OR metropolitan area. This page focuses on cooking and food books, but via the sidebar you can access their amazing selection of new and used books of all types.

Slow Food Piedmont -- Home of the central NC Slow Food movement, which advocates seasonal food, great taste, simple living, sustainable farms, edible schoolyards and green cities.

Slow Food USA -- Home of Slow Food USA, a non-profit educational organization dedicated to supporting and celebrating the food traditions of North America.

Vegan Lunch Box -- Looking for new, nutritious kid-friendly lunch ideas? Each day this vegan mom posts her child's healthy lunchtime menu (photo included) on her blog, star-rated according to the verdict. Creative, entertaining and fun!

Vegweb -- Vegan and vegetarian recipes and more for the vegan diet and lifestyle. Its award-winning newsletter, Nutrition Action Healthletter, is the largest-circulation health newsletter in North America, providing reliable information on nutrition and health.

Fit Together NC -- Linking North Carolinians to tools for healthier weight and lifestyles. Let's all get in shape!

Health Finder -- Resource provided through the National Health Information Center at the US Department of Health
and Human Services with a searchable health library and sections focusing on health care issues and current health news. Also includes a specialized on-site search feature that restricts its results to reputable health information sources verified by the US government.

Medline Plus -- MedlinePlus brings together authoritative information from the National Library of Medicine (NLM), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and other US government agencies and health-related organizations. Preformulated MEDLINE searches are included in MedlinePlus and give easy access to medical journal articles. MedlinePlus also has extensive information about drugs, an illustrated medical encyclopedia, interactive patient tutorials, and latest health news.

MyPyramid.gov -- Sponsored by the US Department of Agriculture, the MyPyramid Plan site can help you choose the foods and amounts that are right for you.

North Carolina Acupuncture Referral Page -- Listings for NC acupuncturists, organized by zip code.

The Environmental Working Group -- A group dedicated since 1993 to environmental investigations. RE3.org -- Developed by the NC Division of Pollution Prevention and Environmental Assistance, this comprehensive site for the state's recycling program is designed to answer consumers' recycling questions and to share all kinds of information about recycling with the public.

Triad Air Awareness -- Committed to providing air quality outreach, education and solutions for the Triad region of North Carolina, this site strives to empower people with the knowledge and tools to take action to improve the air quality.  

Tree Hugger -- A fast-growing web magazine with a fresh sensibility, dedicated to everything that has a modern aesthetic yet is environmentally responsible. Latest news, reviews and recommendations for modern-yet-green products and services. Features a directory to help locate products.

Equal Exchange -- Worker-owned cooperative that provides Fair Trade coffee, tea, cocoa, and chocolate bars.

Fair Trade Certified -- A blog maintained by Dave Rochlin, COO of TransFair USA, the promoting and certifying body for Fair Trade products in the US.

Global Exchange -- An international human rights organization dedicated to promoting environmental, political and social justice. Founded in 1988, they have increased the US public's global awareness while building partnerships worldwide.

Make Trade Fair -- Source for information on Fair Trade, which is a growing, international movement working to ensure that producers in poor countries get a fair deal; part of the Oxfam International confederation.

Oxfam International -- A confederation of 12 organizations working together as a global campaign force in more than 100 countries to find lasting solutions to poverty, suffering and injustice.

Transfair USA -- The only independent, third party certifier of Fair Trade practices in the US, they verify that the farmers who produce Fair Trade Certified products are paid a fair price.
