| Grocery / Bulk Foods
The Deep Roots Grocery department provides a full array of foods, from refrigerated goods, dairy products, and packaged grocery and frozen items (including entrees, breads, meat and meat substitutes, vegetables, fruits and desserts) to bulk foods (over 150 items including -- but not limited to: nuts, beans, grains, granolas and trail mixes, pasta, flour, nut butters, vanilla, olive oil, molasses, honey, maple syrup, granular sweeteners and dried fruits, available for purchase in any quantity you need). We do not carry any items that contain high fructose corn syrup, and we have eliminated most products containing canola oil, soy or corn that are not known to be GMO [genetically modified organism]-free. Concentrated laundry liquid, dishwashing liquid and Dr. Bronner's soaps are also available in bulk for your cleaning needs. We also carry natural dog and cat foods and supplies for the health and happiness of your companion animals. We specialize in organic foods, whole grains and all-natural options, meaning goods or products that use minimal processing and packaging, and contain only healthful ingredients. Many of our products especially our fresh bakery goods and dairy items are produced locally by businesses with similar principles to our own. On a more global scale, we also heartily endorse food items and other goods that are Fair Trade certified. |

| Produce
Offering a wide range of fruits and vegetables from the basic to the exotic, our Produce department is 100% organic and features as much seasonal local produce as is feasible. We support our local economy by buying from North Carolina farmers whenever possible, and we stand behind what we sell. With years of organic produce experience, our Produce staff is ready to assist you with any questions you may have regarding origin, preparation and usage of your purchase. We are also willing to special order items -- just ask! |

| Front End
The Front End department, through our cashiers, will be your first point of contact inside our store. While space prohibits us from having a dedicated information desk, you may ask the cashier who greets you any questions you have. They will be happy to direct you to the items on your list, or help you contact staff in the appropriate department. The Front End registers will also be your last stop as you check out. If there is anything you need at that time, such as assistance with lifting heavy bags or cartons, special order requests, or anything else that will make your shopping experience more pleasant and satisfying, please don’t hesitate to inquire. We want to provide you with excellent, personal customer service. To reduce waste, we welcome the use and reuse of plastic and paper bags from other stores. If you have any extra (clean and untorn) bags at home, we will gladly accept them for use in the store. However, we are moving toward a future with no plastic bags at the registers, and we encourage you to purchase a reusable bag -- one of the several kinds for sale here, or one of your own from elsewhere -- that you can use again and again. On shipment delivery days, we also make available sturdy cardboard boxes of various sizes, free for the taking at the register -- perfect for keeping your groceries neat and safe in your car. |

| Member Services / Outreach / Newsletter
We welcome you to become a DRM owner! Our Membership and Outreach department facilitates existing member relations, new ownership, the worker owner volunteer (WOV) program, in-store tastings, and various community events. Outreach efforts include participation in corporate health fairs and street festivals, working with local colleges to promote natural foods and wellness, organizing all co-op publicity and PR, and coordinating the newsletter, brochures and informational literature, events, website, and DRM merchandise. We encourage you to invite Deep Roots Market to your next event. Please contact us to learn more about becoming an owner of the co-op. Our self-produced newsletter Talking Leaves reaches 900 owners by mail, 500 owners by e-mail, and approximately 300 more people in the store each month. It covers a wide range of timely and useful natural foods, health and wellness topics, providing an important link between the store, our network of owners, and the community. If you are interested in advertising in Talking Leaves, please contact the Member Services/Outreach Coordinator. If you are an owner and would like to suggest topics for upcoming issues (or contribute an article for worker-owner credit), please feel free to contact the Newsletter Editor/Graphic Artist/Webmaster. Please see Join Us and "How the Co-op Works" on About Us to learn more specific details, and our Contact Us page to get in touch with us. |
