I am a fairly new member since 9/16/17. Observing, shopping and eating in the store 1-2 times a week.

Describe any volunteer or paid experience relevant to serving as a co-op board member.

I am a Greensboro native. Founded and direct a non-profit Food Assistance, Inc. ~Groceries on Wheels since 2003. It is totally volunteer-driven community outreach to homebound seniors in Guilford County, offering food, friendship and hope. Have 2 Board meeting a year in the Community Room and purchase dinner for each Board member. Have gotten several people to join Deep Roots.

What do you see as Deep Roots Market's role in the broader community?

To become the excellent and outstanding "organic" place to shop and eat in Greensboro, NC.

Personal statement, including anything you feel is relevant to your candidacy.

Having joined Deep Roots  and observed, now is the time to give back to my Greensboro, NC. It is not a time to only observe, but a time to serve for the greater good of my community to expand spheres of influence and bring greater "unity of community"

Describe your involvement with Deep Roots Market. Include amount of time spent and specific activities, if appropriate.

I have been a member since 2011; however the majority of my experience with Deep Roots Market has been with its new downtown location. Most of my experience has been as a customer. I have attended community events including wine tasting, wellness in store events and a few board meetings.  Having lived downtown and while working with the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce I became more aware of the mission and the stress the Market was under while street and greenway construction was underway.  In that time I also became aware of the vital role a community based market can provide Greensboro.

Describe any volunteer or paid experience relevant to serving as a co-op board member.

My volunteer experience has included Board member and president of the NC Touring Theatre for 5 years.  Previous volunteer experience includes Woman’s Resource Center; mentor and program facilitator with its graduates.  In addition I have been spent 30 years as a successful marketing and sales professional.

What do you see as Deep Roots Market's role in the broader community?

I believe with continued community involvement and education Deep Roots Market will be seen as “THE DOWNTOWN GROCER”.  As the customers continue to frequent the market they will be able to see the market in a deeper fashion; as a resource for education on food cycle, food practices, wellness through food and environmental impact.

Personal statement, including anything you feel is relevant to your candidacy.

The primary reason I want to be a part of the board community is to lend my professional experience and my ability to connect and facilitate diverse groups of people and ideas.  Goal being to increase traffic, sales and success! When I learned about the extreme decrease in traffic and sales during the construction period; I was devastated to learn that if it did not turn around the market would not survive.  At that time I dedicated my dollars to the market, had a minimum of 1 lunch per week and also invited quests to meet me at the store for events, community and shopping!

I Love Deep Roots Market and I want to see it succeed. Lending my talents and energy is a way for me to serve that mission.

Describe your involvement with Deep Roots Market. Include amount of time spent and specific activities, if appropriate.

I have been an owner with Deep Roots Market since moving to Greensboro in 2005. I have had the privilege to have served on the Board of Directors from 2010-2014, at which point I have held the position of vice president and president. Over this stint, I was able to work with Joel and other passionate owners through the success relocation of our store from the Spring Garden to our beautiful downtown location. In November 2017, I was appointed to a vacant seat, where I wanted to make sure to represent our owners and use my energy to help focus our efforts on bringing our Cooperative back to its roots.

Describe any volunteer or paid experience relevant to serving as a co-op board member.

I held the privilege to represent Deep Roots Market in several stints as a director on the Board for Deep Roots. Outside of Deep Roots Market. I have held several leadership positions in retail and finance which will allow for a perspective that will support the long-term vision and security of our cooperative.

What do you see as Deep Roots Market's role in the broader community?

Deep Roots should continue to grow and become a central hub in our community for people and owners can go to find information on ways to live and eat better. Deep

Roots should also focus on being a leading example for North Carolina on the power of Cooperatives.

Personal statement, including anything you feel is relevant to your candidacy.

I believe as we continue to grow as Greensboro Cooperative, that we focus on connecting with as many people we can, but never again separate from the focus on our key values, such as supporting the local community and offering quality products for our owners.
